History
Production One Ltd. was formed in 2002 (and officially registered during the first week of January 2003) in response to the perceived reduction in interest in jazz, especially Caribbean jazz. This, coupled with an apparent dearth of opportunities for Jazz artists to show their fare locally, led the founders—Jazz drummer, Sean Thomas and his wife, Patrice, together with brothers Anton and Rolf Doyle—to establish a production entity that would address these problems and source and facilitate additional avenues for the re-growth of Caribbean Jazz which has a history in Trinidad of over 50 years.
Consistent with its vision of a professionally produced format that encompasses the delivery of a delightful mix of contemporary Caribbean Jazz entertainment and relaxation in an informal atmosphere, Production One Ltd. identified what has turned out to be quite a hit with its patrons—a most appropriate venue at the Centre for Creative and Festival Arts in St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago. The open-air concert, Jazz Artists on the Greens, which is hosted there annually by the company, is fashioned to encourage patrons to "walk with their mats and festival chairs" and sit where they are most comfortable as they enjoy good company and great music.
By creating a corporate environment for their enterprise, the founders recognized the changing landscape for cultural activity and related sponsorship for the arts in the Caribbean. Along the way, Production One Ltd. has developed skills in all aspects of event management (from pre-production planning through event setup, to break down) and can boast of consistently producing top-quality open air concerts that have started punctually, been run smoothly and have left patrons, concessionaires and sponsors well satisfied.
Now, after these few years, Production One Ltd. is confident in its role in reviving the music as well as awakening an interest in the genre among young musicians, new patrons and corporate sponsors alike. Over the past seven years, the company has underwritten the cost for the attendance of young musicians at Jazz Workshops. And, during that same period, Jazz in Trinidad has undoubtedly experienced resurgence as evidenced by the popular hosting of several "Jazz" events (both major and minor) produced by many groups and by the introduction of at least two local radio stations, dedicated to the Jazz genre. By hosting of our premier annual event, Jazz Artists on the Greens, we believe that we are contributing positively to a revival of Jazz on the local scene and toward an appreciation of the genre by a new and expanding market.
Commendations and Accolades
What the Sponsors Say...
- "Jazz on the Greens...Great food, wonderful people, and all that jazz in the air. Have not missed one yet."
—Natalie Suite, Marketing and Development Manger, Trinidad and Tobago Unit Trust Corporation
- "Jazz [Artists] on the Greens 2005 is working its way up to being a major fixture on the entertainment calendar and we feel that with the regional push in promoting the event, a new fan base will soon develop...Rave reviews were received in response to last year's event which is not only an indication of the anticipated success of this year's concert, but also an indication of the development of our entertainment and culture niche market."
—Warren Solomon, Vice President of Tourism, TIDCO
- "Jazz Artists on the Greens 2005 can only be described as a well co-ordinated event. The ambience was magical, the music soothing and gratifying especially if you were a Jazz enthusiast. You were able to listen to different types of Jazz music and enjoy them all, no matter what your personal preference may have been. I am definitely looking forward to the 2006 Show!"
—Marsha Suraj-Lambert, Sales Manager/CTO Supervisor, Continental Airlines
- "After attending Jazz on the Greens in 2004 and 2005, I hope the high standard of entertainment continues for future events. Oh, and the laid back, relaxing, picnic-like ambience adds to the "jazzy" flavour. This event is listed in my diary under "must attend events" for 2006 and beyond. Congratulations and keep it up. "
—Lynette Quamina, Assistant Vice President, Customer Relationship Management, Clico Investment Bank Limited
What the Media Says....
What the Artists Say....
- "I'd like to say thank you for inviting me to be part of "Jazz on the Greens". I understand fully well how difficult it is to put on such a production and that many times it is a labour of love. I wish you all the best in future ventures and I certainly hope that you'll consider having me as part of your future plans."
—Liam Teague, 2005 - "It's a fine turnout in a beautiful setting. It's risky business putting on anything with jazz in it. I'm happy to see the results."
—Ray Holman, 2004 - "First of all I want to thank you for all your efforts to make the Jazz on the Greens a success. I certainly enjoyed playing with Rudy (Smith) and Sean (Thomas). It was the first time for me with them both. I wish Production One all the best in the promotion and presentation of quality entertainment. it is the only way to do it."
—Ron Reid, 2004
